Walmart Marketplace does not charge a standard setup or monthly subscription fee. Instead, Walmart deducts a referral fee after a completed sale. The percentage depends on the product category and sometimes on the total sales price. Current standard rates range from 6% for personal computers to 20% on the first $250 of jewelry and precious metals.
The important detail is the fee base. Walmart says total sales price includes the item price plus shipping and handling, gift wrap, and other charges. The official pricing table does not list buyer-paid sales tax in that definition. Rates and category rules in this guide were reviewed against Walmart Marketplace's official U.S. pricing page on August 12, 2026.
What are the current Walmart Marketplace referral fees?
Many categories use one flat rate. Personal computers are 6%. Major appliances, camera and photo, approved collectibles, consumer electronics, and video game consoles are 8%. Plumbing, heating, cooling and ventilation and tires and wheels are 10%. Automotive and powersports, base power tools, industrial and scientific supplies, musical instruments, and printer cartridges are 12%. A broad group uses 15%, including books, home and garden, luggage, music, pet supplies, shoes and handbags, software and computer games, tools and home improvement, toys and games, video and DVD, and the Everything Else category.
Some categories change at a price threshold. Walmart's wording matters because some tables apply a rate to each portion of price, while others apply one rate to the whole sale after the threshold. Compact appliances are 12% on the portion up to $300 and 8% above $300. Electronics accessories are 15% on the portion up to $100 and 8% above. Furniture is 15% on the portion up to $200 and 10% above. Jewelry is 20% on the portion up to $250 and 5% above. Watches are 15% on the portion up to $1,500 and 3% above.

How does Walmart calculate the referral fee base?
Use the total sales price, not only the item price. If an item sells for $80 and the buyer pays $10 shipping, the standard referral-fee base is $90. At a 15% rate, the referral fee is $13.50. If the seller pays shipping without charging the buyer, that shipping expense does not increase the referral-fee base, but it still reduces profit and should be entered as a seller cost.
Gift wrap, handling, and other buyer charges also belong in Walmart's stated total sales price. The calculator provides one buyer-paid shipping field because that is the most common extra charge. If you collect a separate handling or gift-wrap amount, add it to that field for the fee estimate. Do not add buyer-paid sales tax unless Walmart changes the published fee-base definition or your actual settlement report shows that treatment.
Which Walmart categories use whole-sale thresholds?
Apparel and accessories use 5% when total sales price is $15 or less, 10% when it is between $15 and $20, and 15% when it is greater than $20. Baby products and beauty, health and personal care use 8% at $10 or less and 15% above $10. Grocery uses 8% at $15 or less and 15% above $15. Outdoor power tools use 15% up to $500 and 8% when the total sales price is greater than $500.
These are not progressive portion schedules. Crossing the stated threshold changes the rate applied to the full fee base. That can produce a real fee jump. For example, grocery at exactly $15 has a $1.20 referral fee, while $15.01 at 15% produces a $2.25 fee after cent rounding. The calculator solves target prices one cent at a time around these discontinuities so it does not suggest a price that misses the requested profit.
How do progressive Walmart fee tiers work?
Progressive categories apply one percentage to the first portion and a different percentage only to the amount above the threshold. A $400 compact appliance has a $44 referral fee: 12% of the first $300 is $36, and 8% of the remaining $100 is $8. A $300 sale is $36, so the formula remains continuous at the threshold.
A $300 jewelry sale has a $52.50 referral fee. The first $250 costs 20%, or $50, and the remaining $50 costs 5%, or $2.50. For a $1,600 watch, the first $1,500 costs 15%, or $225, and the remaining $100 costs 3%, or $3, for a total referral fee of $228. These calculations use integer cents for each threshold and price portion.
How do you calculate Walmart payout and actual profit?
Estimated net payout before other costs equals item price plus buyer-paid shipping and other seller revenue, minus the Walmart referral fee. Actual profit goes further. Subtract product cost, seller-paid fulfillment or postage, packaging, storage allocation, advertising, returns, and any other order-level expense. Profit margin is profit divided by seller revenue. Return on cost is profit divided by the costs you entered.
Suppose a home item sells for $100 and the buyer pays $10 shipping. The 15% referral fee on $110 is $16.50, leaving a $93.50 payout before your costs. If the item cost $40, fulfillment cost $12, and packaging cost $2, estimated profit is $39.50. The margin is 35.91% of $110, while return on the $54 entered cost is 73.15%.
Are Walmart Fulfillment Services fees included?
No. Walmart Fulfillment Services, or WFS, has its own weight, dimension, storage, apparel, hazardous-material, low-price, oversize, and big-and-bulky rules. Those charges are not referral fees and can change independently. This calculator leaves fulfillment editable so it can also support seller-fulfilled orders without pretending one WFS amount fits every item.
For a WFS item, use Walmart's current WFS estimator or your actual rate card, then enter the resulting order-level fulfillment cost. Add storage, inbound transportation, advertising, and expected return cost to the other-cost field when they are material. This keeps the official category referral calculation separate from operating assumptions.
Do Walmart fee discounts change the calculator result?
They can, but discounts are not guaranteed standard rates. Walmart advertises New-Seller Savings for eligible sellers that go live after February 1, 2026, with percentage discounts on base referral fees by cumulative gross merchandise value. Pro Seller rewards, reduced-referral-fee pricing incentives, and seasonal programs can also alter eligible charges.
Because eligibility, dates, products, price requirements, and account status vary, the calculator intentionally uses the published standard schedule. Compare the estimate with Seller Center and the settlement report. If a discount applies, treat the difference as an account-specific adjustment rather than changing the standard category rate for everyone.
How should sellers use the target price result?
Enter the target profit along with item cost, fulfillment, and packaging. The calculator searches for the lowest cent-level sale price that reaches that profit under the selected category schedule. Buyer-paid shipping remains in the fee base and in seller revenue, so changing it can change the required item price.
Treat the result as a planning estimate, not a promise of payout. Confirm the item's assigned category, check current official pricing, and compare the final order settlement. Category mapping, promotions, WFS, advertising, refunds, taxes, and account-specific adjustments can change the amount Walmart deducts.

Frequently asked questions
Does Walmart Marketplace charge a monthly seller fee?
Walmart's standard U.S. Marketplace pricing says there are no setup or monthly fees. Sellers pay a referral fee after a completed sale, plus any optional service costs they use.
Does buyer-paid shipping count toward Walmart referral fees?
Yes. Walmart says total sales price includes item price plus shipping and handling, gift wrap, and other charges.
Are Walmart referral fees always 15%?
No. Standard rates vary by category and price rule. Personal computers are 6%, several categories are 8%, 10%, or 12%, many are 15%, and some categories use tiered schedules.
Does this calculator include WFS fees?
Not automatically. Enter your WFS or seller-fulfilled order cost as a fulfillment expense because weight, dimensions, storage, and surcharges vary by item.
Are New-Seller Savings included?
No. The calculator uses standard referral fees because promotional savings depend on eligibility, dates, cumulative sales, and program terms.
