Calculate Venmo fees

Venmo charges different fees for receiving a commercial payment and moving the resulting balance. Under the current U.S. fee schedule, a standard business-profile payment costs the recipient 1.9% plus $0.10. A payment sent to a personal profile and identified as goods and services costs the seller 2.99%. A business-profile Tap to Pay payment costs 2.29% plus $0.09.

Moving money is a separate decision. A standard bank transfer costs $0, while Instant Transfer costs 1.75% of the transferred amount, with a $0.25 minimum and $25 maximum. This guide and calculator use Venmo's official U.S. fees page reviewed July 28, 2026. Venmo says fees can change, so compare the estimate with the fee disclosed in the app before authorizing a payment or transfer.

What fee does a Venmo business profile pay?

A payment received through a Venmo business profile normally carries a 1.9% transaction fee plus $0.10. The fee is deducted from the payment received. For a $100 business-profile payment, 1.9% is $1.90. Adding the fixed $0.10 produces a $2 fee and leaves $98 before any transfer fee or business costs.

The transaction amount is the commercial payment received, not the seller's profit. If the amount includes shipping collected from the buyer, that collected amount is part of the payment used by this calculator. Costs such as inventory, postage, packaging, mileage, and labor reduce profit after the Venmo fee. They do not reduce the payment amount on which the fee is estimated.

How is the Venmo goods and services fee different?

When a sender identifies a payment to a personal Venmo profile as being for goods and services, Venmo's fees page lists a 2.99% seller transaction fee. There is no additional fixed amount in that listed line. On a $100 payment, the estimated fee is $2.99 and the remaining balance is $97.01 before a transfer.

A personal payment between friends is listed as free to receive, but that does not make the personal-payment setting appropriate for a sale. Venmo's user agreement distinguishes personal payments from purchases and commercial transactions. Sellers should use the payment treatment that truthfully describes the transaction. The calculator does not include a fee-free commercial workaround.

What does Venmo Tap to Pay cost?

Venmo lists a separate business-profile rate for Tap to Pay: 2.29% plus $0.09. On a $100 Tap to Pay transaction, the percentage portion is $2.29 and the fixed portion is $0.09, producing an estimated $2.38 fee. The balance after that fee is $97.62 before transfer or operating costs.

Tap to Pay should be selected only when the payment is actually received through that flow. A customer scanning a normal business-profile QR code is not automatically the same as a Tap to Pay transaction. Review the payment details in the business profile when reconciling the estimate.

How does the Venmo Instant Transfer fee work?

Venmo's current Instant Transfer fee is 1.75% of the amount transferred, subject to a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. The minimum matters on small balances. At 1.75%, a $10 transfer would produce $0.175 before rounding, so the $0.25 minimum applies. The cap matters on large transfers. A $2,000 transfer would produce $35 at 1.75%, so the fee is limited to $25.

The calculator applies Instant Transfer after the seller transaction fee because the transferable balance is what remains in the modeled sequence. If the entered payment includes collected sales tax, that tax remains part of the Venmo balance and therefore part of the transfer amount, even though the calculator removes it later when showing seller revenue and profit. It computes the percentage in integer cents, then applies the $0.25 and $25 boundaries. Standard transfer is listed at $0 and is usually slower. Venmo says standard transfers typically reach a linked bank in one to three business days, while Instant Transfer is typically available in minutes.

How do you calculate total Venmo fees and profit?

First calculate the seller transaction fee for the selected payment type. Next, if Instant Transfer is selected, apply its bounded percentage to the balance remaining after the seller fee. Add those two charges for total Venmo fees. Net payout equals the commercial amount received minus total Venmo fees. Profit then subtracts the item's cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, and other entered costs.

For a $100 standard business-profile payment followed by Instant Transfer, the seller fee is $2 and the transferable balance is $98. The Instant Transfer fee is 1.75% of $98, which rounds to $1.72. Total Venmo fees are $3.72 and the net payout is $96.28. If inventory and fulfillment cost $60, estimated profit is $36.28. Without Instant Transfer, total Venmo fees would be $2 and modeled profit would be $38.

How do you find the payment needed for a target profit?

Reverse pricing starts with the money that must remain after fees: item cost, seller-paid shipping, packaging, and target profit. A simple percentage-plus-fixed fee can be reversed algebraically, but an Instant Transfer minimum or maximum makes one universal shortcut unreliable. The calculator instead searches in one-cent increments and checks the complete fee sequence.

Cent-level verification matters around the Instant Transfer boundaries and whenever a fixed seller fee applies. The displayed target is the lowest modeled cent that reaches the requested profit. Lowering that result by one cent should leave profit below the target. This is a planning tool, not advice to add an undisclosed surcharge. Any customer-facing fee must comply with Venmo's terms and applicable law.

Which Venmo charges are outside this seller estimate?

Venmo's fees page also lists a 3% charge when a person sends money using a credit card. That is a sender-side funding fee, not the seller transaction fee modeled here. Merchant checkout on websites and apps has separate public pricing, currently shown on Venmo's business acceptance page, and should not be substituted for a business-profile payment rate.

Cash-a-check fees, cryptocurrency fees, ATM charges, international transfers to eligible PayPal accounts, chargebacks, refunds, taxes, card-issuer cash-advance fees, and negotiated merchant terms are outside this calculator. Venmo's agreement also says fees and limits may change. Use the live official fee page and the disclosure shown inside Venmo as the final authority.

Three worked Venmo fee examples

Example one: a $50 business-profile payment with standard transfer. The seller fee is $50 multiplied by 1.9%, or $0.95, plus $0.10. Total fees are $1.05 and net payout is $48.95 before inventory and fulfillment costs.

Example two: a $100 personal-profile payment identified as goods and services. The fee is $100 multiplied by 2.99%, or $2.99. Net payout is $97.01 with standard transfer. If Instant Transfer is selected, 1.75% of $97.01 rounds to $1.70, making total fees $4.69 and net payout $95.31.

Example three: a $2,000 business-profile payment with Instant Transfer. The seller transaction fee is $38.10, leaving $1,961.90. The percentage transfer calculation exceeds $25, so the official maximum limits that transfer fee to $25. Total modeled Venmo fees are $63.10 and net payout is $1,936.90 before business costs.
