OfferUp does not charge a fee or take a commission from an in-person transaction. That is the current official answer for a normal local item sale. A seller and buyer agree on the price, arrange payment directly, and complete the exchange outside OfferUp's payment systems. For a $100 local sale, the modeled OfferUp transaction commission is therefore $0, not a percentage copied from an old shipping article or an unrelated business plan.
A zero marketplace commission does not make every sale free. A seller may pay for a promotion, an additional listing after reaching a monthly category limit, a subscription, a separate payment method, delivery, fuel, cleaning, or supplies. OfferUp says paid features show pricing and billing details before purchase, and several prices vary by feature, category, account, or app-store offer. Nationwide shipping also ended in 2025. This guide uses OfferUp's official marketplace overview, shipping notice, listing-limit policy, and terms reviewed August 16, 2026.
What are the current OfferUp selling fees?
For an ordinary local item sale completed in person, OfferUp's current marketplace overview says the platform does not charge fees or take a commission from the transaction. The buyer and seller decide how payment will happen, and OfferUp is not a party to that direct payment. The standard calculator preset is therefore a 0% platform commission with no fixed transaction charge.
This answer is narrower than saying every OfferUp product is free. OfferUp also sells promotions, additional listings, subscriptions, business products, job listings, and service listings. Those are paid services rather than a percentage deducted automatically from every local item sale. Enter an actual paid-feature cost only when you bought it for the listing or want to allocate part of a subscription to the sale.
- Local in-person item transaction: $0 OfferUp commission
- Nationwide shipping transaction: no longer available for new or ordinary existing listings
- Promotions and extra listings: optional, with upfront pricing shown in the app
- Business, job, and service products: separate paid offerings with their own terms
- Direct payment cost: determined by the payment method chosen by buyer and seller, not a universal OfferUp rate
Did OfferUp end shipping and the old seller fee?
Yes. OfferUp announced that sellers could no longer select nationwide shipping for new listings beginning September 23, 2025. On October 21, 2025, the shipping option was removed from existing listings that did not have an active offer or transaction in progress. OfferUp said it was returning its focus to local transactions.
Older articles and calculators may still describe a shipping service fee or a payout after an OfferUp label. Those formulas do not describe a new local listing in 2026. A current calculator should not revive the retired shipping percentage. If you are reconciling a historical transaction that was already in progress during the shutdown, use that transaction's statement rather than this local-sale tool.
Which OfferUp costs can a local seller still pay?
OfferUp provides free posting within monthly category limits, then may offer single additional listings or subscription packages. The official listing-limit page says the free monthly allowance currently includes 1 Cars and Trucks listing, 1 Motorcycle listing, 15 Appliance listings, 15 Cell Phones and Accessories listings, 25 Furniture listings, 25 Jewelry and Accessories listings, 25 Tools and Machinery listings, and a combined 200 listings across other categories. The limits refresh on the first day of each calendar month and are subject to change.
A promotion can also be purchased to increase visibility, and business sellers can choose Storefront plans. These are not safe to convert into one universal per-sale fee. The price may be shown only in the app, may differ by product or account, and may cover several posts or promotions. If a $12 promotion supported one listing, enter $12. If a $49 monthly plan supported 35 posts and you choose an even allocation, enter $1.40 for one post, but label that as your allocation rather than an OfferUp transaction fee.
How do you calculate OfferUp profit on a local sale?
Start with the agreed sale price. Subtract any OfferUp paid feature allocated to the listing and any cost charged by the payment method you actually use. That leaves cash after entered fees. Then subtract the item's cost, meetup or delivery expense, cleaning, supplies, and other direct costs. The formula is: profit = sale price - OfferUp paid features - payment cost - item cost - delivery or meetup cost - other direct costs.
Example one: sell an item for $100, with a $35 item cost, $5 meetup cost, $2 cleaning and supply cost, a $4 promotion, and a $3 payment cost. OfferUp commission is $0. Entered fees total $7, cash after those fees is $93, total seller costs are $49, and profit is $51. Profit margin is 51% because $51 divided by the $100 sale price equals 0.51. ROI is about 104.08% because $51 divided by all $49 of modeled seller costs equals about 1.0408.
What if the buyer pays cash or uses a payment app?
OfferUp's terms say local payment may be made in person and outside the OfferUp services using a method the parties agree on. Cash has no processor percentage, although a seller can still have travel, change-making, counterfeit, or safety considerations. A payment app or card reader may charge the seller under that provider's current terms. Do not assume the fee is the same for a personal transfer, a purchase payment, a business profile, or a card-present transaction.
Example two: a $60 cash sale with a $20 item cost and $4 round-trip travel cost has $36 profit when there are no paid features or payment charges. Example three: the same sale with a separately verified $2 payment-method cost has $34 profit. The calculator accepts the dollar cost instead of applying an unverified percentage, which keeps the OfferUp policy separate from the payment provider's policy.
How should you set a target price for OfferUp?
Add the target profit to every known cost. Because the current local transaction commission is zero and the optional costs in this calculator are entered as fixed dollars, the minimum target price is direct costs plus paid features plus payment cost plus target profit. With a $35 item, $5 meetup, $2 supplies, $4 promotion, $3 payment cost, and a $40 profit goal, the minimum modeled price is $89.
Negotiation changes the result immediately. If you list at $100 but expect to accept $85, calculate with $85 as the sale price. The list price is not revenue until a buyer agrees to it. The target output is especially useful for setting a walk-away price before chat begins, but it cannot account for unexpected returns, damage, taxes, or a paid feature you buy later.
What should OfferUp sellers verify before meeting a buyer?
Verify the agreed price, payment method, condition, included accessories, and meeting location in the conversation. Recalculate profit with the accepted price rather than the original listing price. If you purchased a promotion or extra listing, use the receipt or in-app billing screen. If you use a payment provider, consult that provider's current official fee page and your account terms before entering a payment cost.
Use OfferUp's safety guidance and a well-lit public meeting location when practical. Marketplace Math estimates financial results only. It does not verify a buyer, guarantee a payment, price tax obligations, or replace OfferUp's current rules. A seller should keep the listing, receipt, payment record, and cost notes needed to explain the final result later.

What happened to the OfferUp shipping fee?
