Calculate my Depop profit

Depop vs Poshmark fees start with a clear difference for U.S. sellers: Depop has no standard selling commission, but Depop Payments charges 3.3% plus $0.45 on item price, shipping and applicable tax. Poshmark charges $2.95 for sales under $15 or 20% for sales of $15 and above. On an unboosted $50 item with no shipping or tax in the example, Depop processing is $2.10 and Poshmark commission is $10. Those are seller fees, not a complete profit comparison.

This guide uses USD and official policies checked October 22, 2026. Optional Depop boosting, buyer-paid shipping, seller-funded delivery and inventory costs can change the result. It covers ordinary U.S. sales, not another country's fee schedule. Poshmark's help center also flags a Texas Seller Fee Tax; the examples exclude that additional tax and other account-specific charges. Confirm the actual listing and earnings preview before accepting an offer.

Which is cheaper: Depop vs Poshmark fees?

For the same item price and ordinary shipping costs, an unboosted U.S. Depop sale generally has a lower baseline seller deduction. Its processing percentage is much lower than Poshmark's 20% tier. The fixed $0.45 still matters for inexpensive items: a $10 payment has $0.33 of percentage processing plus $0.45 fixed processing, or $0.78 total. Poshmark's fee on a $10 item is $2.95. Neither calculation includes inventory or seller-funded shipping.

Do not compare Depop's zero selling commission with Poshmark's entire seller fee and stop there. Depop processing is mandatory for the modeled payment, and an attributed boosted sale has another charge. The meaningful question is how much remains after all seller deductions at a realistic accepted price on each platform. This comparison makes no claim that either platform sells clothing faster or attracts buyers willing to pay the same price.

How do shipping and tax change the fee bases?

Depop's seller-fee page expressly includes shipping and applicable tax in payment processing. If an item is $50, buyer shipping is $6 and buyer tax is $4, the processing base is $60. The percentage component is $1.98 and the fixed charge is $0.45, totaling $2.43. Tax enters that fee base even though marketplace-collected buyer tax is not seller revenue in this comparison. Enter zero tax only when that matches the scenario you want to test.

For Depop boosting, the base is different: exclude tax, and include buyer-paid shipping only when you arrange your own shipping rather than use a Depop Shipping label. Poshmark's fee is modeled on the item sale price for these single-item examples. Buyer-paid standard shipping is not money the seller keeps. Poshmark's Shipping Policy says it provides a prepaid label, while seller-funded discounts and required label upgrades can reduce earnings. Do not add buyer shipping to Poshmark revenue just to make the two worksheets look alike.

When does Depop charge the 12% boosting fee?

Depop's Boosted Listings policy says a buyer must interact with a boosted listing, by viewing, clicking or liking it, and purchase within 28 days for a boosting fee to apply. Turning boosting off does not erase an earlier qualifying interaction within that window. A purchase without the qualifying boosted interaction does not automatically incur the fee just because the listing was boosted. Check the receipt's attribution rather than subtracting 12% from every sale.

The seller-fee table marks the 12% U.S. and U.K. rate for new listings from March 23, 2026. This guide and the calculator's boost option use that eligible new-listing case; they do not establish the rate for every legacy listing. At a $50 item price with $6 buyer shipping, the modeled boost is $6.72 with your own shipping or $6.00 with a Depop Shipping label. Processing still uses the shipping-inclusive payment base in both cases. Confirm any older listing's terms in Depop instead of substituting an old 8% screenshot.

Worked example: a $10 item with buyer-paid shipping

Assume a $10 Depop item, $6 buyer-paid shipping, no buyer tax and no attributed boost. Inventory costs $3, actual postage costs $6 and packaging costs $0.50. Processing is 3.3% of $16 plus $0.45: $0.528 plus $0.45, or $0.98 after the disclosed cent-rounding assumption. Economic revenue is $16. After processing, $15.02 remains before postage; subtract $6 postage, $3 inventory and $0.50 packaging for $5.52 estimated profit.

For a $10 Poshmark item, the $2.95 commission leaves $7.05. With the same $3 inventory and $0.50 packaging, no seller shipping discount and no extra fee tax, profit is $3.55. Buyer-paid standard shipping is excluded from both seller revenue and seller expense on this side. Depop's $1.97 profit advantage belongs to these specific assumptions. A different accepted offer or a seller-funded delivery discount changes it. All shipping amounts here are hypothetical, not current carrier quotes.

Worked example: a $50 item, tax and an attributed boost

Use a $50 Depop item, $6 buyer shipping, $4 buyer tax, $15 inventory, $6 postage and $1 packaging. Processing totals $2.43 on the $60 payment base. Without a boost, $56 economic seller revenue minus $2.43 processing minus $22 direct costs gives $31.57 profit. With an eligible attributed 12% boost and your own shipping, subtract another $6.72 for $24.85 profit. With a Depop Shipping label and the same assumed $6 label cost, the boost base excludes shipping, so the $6 boost leaves $25.57 profit.

On Poshmark, a $50 item has a $10 baseline commission and $40 proceeds before seller costs. Subtract $15 inventory and $1 packaging for $24 profit when the buyer funds standard shipping and the seller buys no upgrade. A hypothetical $4 seller-funded shipping discount instead leaves $20. In the boosted own-shipping example, Depop is only $0.85 ahead of Poshmark's no-discount case. That narrow gap is why a headline percentage alone is a poor offer-acceptance rule.

What changes at exactly $15 on Poshmark?

Poshmark's current Fee Policy explicitly puts sales of $15 and above in the 20% tier. At $14.99, its $2.95 commission leaves $12.04 before costs. At $15.00, a $3.00 commission leaves $12.00. A one-cent higher sale therefore produces four cents less in modeled proceeds at the boundary. Use the full two-tier calculation when finding a minimum acceptable price, rather than assuming 20% applies below $15.

For contrast, an unboosted $15 Depop item with $6 shipping and no buyer tax has $1.14 processing: 3.3% of $21 plus $0.45, rounded to cents. Subtracting matching $6 postage from the $21 economic revenue leaves $13.86 before inventory and packaging. The corresponding Poshmark baseline is $12.00 before those costs. An attributed boost, seller discount or additional tax can change that $1.86 difference.

Why is seller payout different from profit?

A marketplace deduction is only one cost of selling. Profit here means economic revenue minus modeled seller fees, inventory and entered direct costs. It is not after-tax take-home income or a business-wide net margin. A $40 payout can still represent a poor sale if the item cost $35 and the seller funded delivery. Keep your cost of goods and supplies in the calculation even if you paid for them months earlier.

For Depop, the calculator includes buyer shipping as economic revenue and asks you to subtract the actual shipping expense once. If the platform has already withheld a label from the bank payout, do not subtract that label again from the net cash figure. Buyer tax is excluded from revenue but included in processing. Buyer-facing fees are not another seller commission; this guide does not estimate a buyer's full checkout or assume identical buyer charges on both platforms. Use the order's checkout preview separately.

How should you compare your next offer?

Write down a plausible accepted item price for each marketplace. On Depop, enter buyer shipping and tax, choose the correct shipping method, and apply the boost only if the listing and attributed sale qualify. Then enter inventory, actual postage and packaging. On Poshmark, use the related calculator to apply its fee tier and enter seller-funded shipping expenses. Its help center says Texas sellers have an additional Seller Fee Tax from October 1, 2025; use your account's actual deduction rather than inventing a universal rate.

The Depop tool rounds monetary inputs and each percentage component to cents before deducting costs. This is a disclosed planning convention, not a platform-confirmed rounding policy. Zero payment models no completed sale and no processing charge; entered costs can still produce a loss. The target-price estimate applies those same assumptions in whole cents. Reconcile a completed sale with its statement, especially for legacy boosts, returns, promotions or deductions outside the model. Marketplace Math is independent of both platforms.

Frequently asked questions

Is Depop cheaper than Poshmark for U.S. sellers?

For ordinary unboosted sales at the same item price and shipping assumptions, Depop generally has lower baseline seller fees. Its processing is 3.3% plus $0.45, while Poshmark charges $2.95 below $15 or 20% at $15 and above. Boosts and seller-funded costs can narrow or reverse the profit difference.

Does no Depop selling fee mean the sale is free?

No. U.S. Depop Payments processing is 3.3% of item price, shipping and applicable tax plus $0.45. An eligible attributed boosted sale can add a separate 12% fee.

Does Depop charge the boost fee on shipping?

It includes shipping when you arrange your own shipping. The boosting base excludes tax and excludes shipping when a Depop Shipping label is used. Payment processing still includes shipping and applicable tax.

Does Poshmark take $2.95 on a $15 sale?

No. The current Fee Policy puts $15 in the 20% tier, producing a $3.00 baseline commission. The $2.95 flat fee applies below $15.

Will turning off Depop boosting prevent every later boost fee?

No. Depop says a qualifying buyer interaction before unboosting can still lead to a fee if the buyer purchases within 28 days. Check the sale's attribution and listing terms.
