An Amazon FBA sale normally combines a category referral fee with a per-unit fulfillment fee. A current 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge also applies to the FBA fulfillment fee. Inventory can create monthly storage, inbound placement, aged-inventory, removal, returns, and other charges. The calculator separates the predictable per-order pieces from costs that must be allocated by the seller.
For a common U.S. non-apparel item, the referral fee is often 15% of total sales price, subject to the category minimum, while the 2026 FBA fulfillment fee depends on Amazon's measured size tier and shipping weight. Those are not interchangeable percentages. This page uses Amazon's live public U.S. pricing reviewed August 1, 2026 and clearly exposes editable assumptions.
What Amazon FBA fees should a seller calculate?
Begin with separate buckets for referral, fulfillment, the current fulfillment surcharge, selling plan, and inventory-related costs. Referral fees pay for the marketplace transaction. The FBA fulfillment fee covers picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns handling for the unit. Since April 17, 2026, Amazon applies a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to the fulfillment fee, not to sale price. The Professional plan is $39.99 per month, while the Individual plan adds $0.99 for each item sold. Storage and inbound placement depend on how much space and network service the inventory uses.
The useful profit formula is seller revenue minus referral fee, FBA fulfillment fee and surcharge, allocated storage and inbound cost, selling-plan allocation, product cost, prep, packaging, and other direct costs. Advertising and refunds belong in the model when they apply, but the calculator does not silently assume them.
- Referral fee: category percentage, often with a minimum
- FBA fulfillment: size, weight, price, and apparel status can change the tier
- Fuel and logistics surcharge: 3.5% of the FBA fulfillment fee
- Selling plan: allocate $39.99 monthly Professional per unit, or use $0.99 per item Individual
- Inventory costs: storage, inbound placement, aged inventory, removals, and special handling can apply
How is the Amazon referral fee calculated?
Amazon's public U.S. schedule defines referral fees by category. Many categories use 15%, but consoles use 8%, tires use 10%, veterinary diets can use 22%, and several categories have tiered rates based on portions of total sales price. Most listed categories have a $0.30 minimum referral fee. The exact product category assigned by Amazon controls the charge, not the category a seller hoped to use.
For a simple 15% category, a $100 item plus $10 buyer-paid shipping creates a $110 referral base and an estimated $16.50 referral fee. Sales tax is not added to the calculator's referral base. Tiered categories require the official bracket formula, so this general calculator is intentionally limited to its displayed flat-rate choices and editable minimum. Confirm the ASIN in Amazon's Revenue Calculator or Fee Preview before making a listing decision.
How do 2026 FBA fulfillment size tiers work?
Amazon classifies packaged products by dimensions and shipping weight. The public 2026 non-apparel table lists small-standard fees from $3.06 for two ounces or less through $3.65 for more than 14 through 16 ounces. Large-standard examples include $4.15 for more than 8 through 12 ounces, $4.99 for more than one through 1.25 pounds, and $6.62 for more than 2.75 through 3 pounds. Above three pounds, interval charges apply.
Large bulky starts at $9.61 plus $0.38 for each pound interval above the first pound. Extra-large up to 50 pounds starts at $26.33 plus $0.38 for each pound interval above the first. Higher extra-large bands use different bases and increments. Apparel uses its own table, and eligible low-price products use Low-Price FBA rates. Measure the packaged unit and use Amazon's recorded shipping weight rather than guessing from a carrier label.
How should storage and inbound placement be included?
Amazon says monthly storage is based on daily average volume in cubic feet. The public table lists standard-size storage at $0.78 per cubic foot from January through September and $2.40 from October through December. Oversize storage is $0.56 and $1.40 for those periods. Dangerous goods and sellers with high inventory relative to recent sales can face additional costs.
Convert a monthly portfolio charge into a per-unit planning cost. For example, if attributable storage and inbound costs total $60 for inventory expected to sell 100 units, enter $0.60 per unit. This allocation is an operating assumption, not an Amazon rate. Inbound placement depends on the shipment plan, destination choice, dimensions, and quantity. AWD may include inbound placement under its separate pricing, so never assume an inbound cost of zero without checking the workflow shown in the account.
Worked Amazon FBA fee examples
Example one: a $100 non-apparel item in a common 15% category, with no separately charged shipping, has a $15 referral fee. If the unit is large standard at more than 8 through 12 ounces, the displayed 2026 fulfillment fee is $4.15 and its 3.5% surcharge rounds to $0.15. Add $0.50 allocated storage and $0.40 Professional-plan allocation for $20.20 in modeled Amazon and allocated costs. If product and other fulfillment costs are $46.50, estimated profit is $33.30.
Example two: a $20 item in the same category has a $3 referral fee. A small-standard unit at two ounces or less adds $3.06 and its surcharge rounds to $0.11. With $0.25 allocated storage and the Individual plan's $0.99 per-item charge, modeled fees and allocated Amazon costs are $7.41 before product cost. Fixed fees therefore consume much more of a low price.
Example three: a $100 console at the displayed 8% referral rate creates an $8 referral fee rather than $15. If its measured package qualifies for a $6.62 large-standard fulfillment tier, its surcharge is $0.23, allocated storage plus inbound totals $1.25, and Professional-plan allocation is $0.40, modeled charges are $16.50. These examples exclude advertising, aged inventory, returns processing, removals, and category-specific exceptions.
When will the calculator differ from an Amazon statement?
Amazon can remeasure a package, change a product's category, apply dimensional weight, enroll an eligible product in Low-Price FBA, or charge inventory services that a one-order calculator cannot infer. Apparel, dangerous goods, peak storage, aged inventory, high storage utilization, returns, removals, liquidation, prep, labeling, inbound defects, and advertising can change total economics.
Use this tool for an auditable estimate, then reconcile it with Fee Preview and the Revenue Calculator. Replace the visible category, fulfillment, storage, and inbound assumptions with the values shown for the ASIN. If the account has promotions or negotiated terms, the account statement is the final source for that transaction.

Frequently asked questions
What percentage does Amazon take from FBA sellers?
There is no single percentage. Many categories use a 15% referral fee, but category rates vary, and FBA adds a fixed fulfillment charge based on size and weight.
Does Amazon charge referral fees on shipping?
Amazon's public pricing defines total sales price to include item price and shipping or gift-wrap charges paid by the buyer, so buyer-paid shipping normally enters the referral base.
How much is Amazon FBA storage in 2026?
Amazon's public U.S. page lists standard-size monthly storage at $0.78 per cubic foot January through September and $2.40 October through December, with different oversize and additional-inventory charges.
Is the Amazon Professional plan included per item?
The calculator treats the $39.99 Professional subscription as a monthly cost to allocate separately. The Individual choice adds the listed $0.99 per-item charge.
Does this replace Amazon's Revenue Calculator?
No. Use it for transparent scenario planning, then confirm ASIN classification, dimensions, weight, and account-specific charges in Amazon's official Revenue Calculator or Fee Preview.
