Calculate Etsy fees

Etsy's total cost is a stack of separate charges, not one commission. A typical U.S. order can include a $0.20 listing or renewal fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, Etsy Payments processing, and an Offsite Ads fee when the sale is attributed to that program.

Each fee can use a different base. The transaction fee applies to the listing price plus shipping and gift wrap. U.S. payment processing applies to the total sale, including tax and shipping. That is why adding the percentages mentally often misses the real charge.

The four fees most sellers should model

Start with the listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing fee, and any attributed Offsite Ads fee. For a U.S. seller, the calculator defaults payment processing to 3% plus $0.25, but Etsy publishes country-specific rates and the location of the seller's bank account controls that rate.

Why low-price items feel the fixed fees more

A $0.45 combined listing and payment fixed charge consumes 4.5% of a $10 item before percentage fees. The same fixed dollars are less than half a percent of a $100 item. Bundles and minimum pricing can protect margin on inexpensive products.

Materials and labor belong in profit

Etsy's payout does not tell you whether the product is profitable. Add materials, production labor if you track it, packaging, seller-paid shipping, replacements, and advertising. Use a target margin to work backward to a sustainable price.

Other Etsy charges to review

Currency conversion, regulatory operating fees, subscriptions, set-up charges, VAT on seller services, shipping labels, deposit fees, and Etsy Ads can apply in some situations. Treat the calculator as a transparent U.S. order estimate and reconcile it to the payment account.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage does Etsy take?

The transaction fee alone is 6.5%, but payment processing, listing fees, Offsite Ads, and other charges can make the total higher.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping charged to the buyer, and payment processing generally includes shipping too.

When is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee 12% instead of 15%?

Etsy's policy uses 12% after a shop reaches the stated $10,000 sales threshold over the prior 365 days; qualifying shops remain subject to the program under the policy.
